Your
Questions

OUR
ANSWERS

1. Responsibility/Sustainability

› What materials do you use?

For us, sustainability is not a trend or an extra effort, but the norm. Therefore, we exclusively use natural materials:

Plant fibers

  • Cotton
  • Hemp
  • Recycled cotton
  • Modal
  • Sustainable viscose, among others from Lenzing (Ecovero, Tencel, Lyocell, etc.)

Animal fibers from controlled, organic animal husbandry

  • Baby-Alpaca wool
  • Peace silk

You can find more information about our fabric producers and the production of our fabrics here.

› What makes you environmentally friendly?

The fast fashion industry is the world's second-largest polluter after the oil industry. We've had enough of that. Therefore, we place the utmost importance on a sustainable and environmentally friendly production process.
For us, this means continuously working with our partners in Peru and India to review and optimize our production processes in terms of their environmental impact, and always looking for more sustainable processes and materials. In addition, we focus on short transportation routes, eco-friendly dyeing, and energy- and water-saving production processes.
We also attach great importance to a resource-saving approach in the design process. For example, we design our cuts based on the measurements of our fabrics, which allows us to significantly reduce or even eliminate the production of fabric scraps. If scraps do occur, we use them to create small accessories such as hairbands, scrunchies, or bow ties.
The ecological sustainability of a product does not end with its production, but is significantly influenced by the way we use the garment. Therefore, the quality and the proper care of our pieces is very important to us - because only a truly durable garment that accompanies you for many years can be sustainable. In addition, wherever possible, we integrate small elements that allow you to adjust the clothing to your body, when it naturally changes over time (or meals;).
And what if a Jyoti garment is no longer liked and not worn anymore (like actually half of all garments in Germany)? For these cases, we have developed Jyoti-Circular. Our contribution to more circularity in the fashion industry. And the best part: it's super easy for you. If you no longer wear a Jyoti piece, you can simply return it to us. We then work on it, repair it if necessary, and offer it as a second-hand piece in our Berlin concept store. This way, your garment gets a second life and continues to be used, significantly reducing its ecological footprint.

› Are your products vegan?

No, but…
Although we have decided not to rely on purely vegan resources, the well-being of animals is our top priority. While a large part of our fabrics is vegan (and even PETA approved), we have been sourcing high-quality alpaca wool from Peru for several years and have some products made from so-called peace silk in our collection.
Why? We weighed the arguments for a long time, but ultimately the overwhelming majority of arguments spoke in favor of:

Wool

  • Wool is a very sustainable, extremely durable fiber that requires much less water compared to cotton
  • It is biodegradable and wonderful to recycle
  • Compared to synthetic fibers, which are often used to produce warm knitted sweaters but effectively contain huge amounts of plastic and thus oil, it wins hands down in terms of environmental friendliness
  • We source our alpaca wool exclusively from Alpaqueros - small alpaca farmers who live with their animals in the Andes of Peru. The animals live freely all year round and are gently shorn only every two years under strict animal welfare regulations

Peace Silk

  • Unlike in conventional silk production, the silkworms are not killed through heat in an oven or boiling water but can leave the cocoon unharmed
  • Just like wool, peace silk requires very little water during cultivation and is a highly durable fiber.
  • The value chain is very short and focused on a few small neighboring villages in this case.

For more detailed information on our decision to use animal materials, have a look at our blog articles about silk and wool.

› Where do you produce?

We exclusively produce in India and Peru.

India:
In India, we manage three of our own workshops - a feature that sets us apart significantly from the majority of most fair and fast fashion brands. That means we don't outsource our production to third parties, but take care of everything ourselves - hiring our seamstresses through our own company, sourcing materials, setting up the sewing workshops... This way, we can design all processes ourselves and do not have to rely on external producers or certification organizations to ensure compliance with social and environmental standards. It is a lot of work for us, but we have 100% transparency and guarantee of fair and sustainable processes. You can find all details about our teams in India here.

Peru:

We have not set up our own workshop in Peru for the production of our alpaca knit pieces. Instead, all our pieces are made by NGOs and small family businesses. Our most important partner is the Belgian NGO Solid Crafts, which runs a wonderful knitting workshop in Ayachucho. The values of Solid Crafts align perfectly with ours and we were able to convince ourselves of their work (which absolutely amazed us) through visits on site. For more details, be sure to have a look at this.

› What do you do with your fabric scraps?

India:
First and foremost, we place great emphasis on developing patterns that are perfectly tailored to our fabric widths. This way, we can prevent large amounts of fabric scraps even before the start of production. Of course, we cannot completely avoid it. Therefore, we have come up with two solutions: From the larger pieces, we sew our accessories such as scrunchies, dish towels, bow ties, or hairbands. The very small scraps are processed into pillow fillings. These are then used in the boarding schools of our partner organization and provide many children with an especially soft bed.

Peru:

Since all our pieces are knit by hand or even completely by hand knitting machine, no leftover yarn is produced.

› Speaking of transparency, how often do you visit the teams in India and Peru?

We visit our teams in India (if there is no pandemic in between) about once a year and are in daily contact via WhatsApp or phone for the rest of the time.
Since we do not directly manage the production in Peru and have great trust in our Belgian partner NGO, who is regularly on site, we do not visit Peru as regularly. We were last there in November 2022 and are already looking forward to our next visit.

2. Order Process

› I received an order confirmation but haven't heard from you since then - did something go wrong?

  • Firstly, please check whether the payment for your order has been successful (i.e., the money has been debited from your account). If not, simply place the order again.
  • If you paid via Sofortüberweisung, it may take up to 10 days in rare cases for the money to reach us. We will send your order as soon as the payment is completed!
  • Is it possible that you ordered (at least part of your order) on pre-order (what is that?) If so, you should have already received an email from us in your inbox.

If you are still wondering, please contact us at bestellung(at)jyoti-fairworks.org, and we will work together to find a solution.

› I want to order a product, but it's sold out online - is it available in your store or on other platforms?

Unfortunately, no. The inventory in our own online shop, on Avocadostore, and in our concept store in Berlin is all synchronized. This means that if the product is sold out on one platform, it is really gone.

BUT… there are still a few loopholes :)

  1. In our own online shop, you have the option to pre-order sold-out products. This means that you order normally on our homepage, after which we immediately place the order in India, and a few weeks later, your product is sent to you from India and forwarded to you immediately. Sometimes it is much faster because the products have already been reordered, and we are just waiting for the delivery from India.
  2. In our Berlin concept store, we offer Jyoti second-hand pieces, as well as prototypes and clothing with minor defects, in addition to the regular collection items. We sometimes have quite a few of these unique pieces, and maybe there is one that is very similar to your desired product (and nobody else will have it). So feel free to come by and browse!
  3. If none of the above helps, it is also possible that one of the retail stores carrying our clothing still has the product in stock. Unfortunately, we do not have any insight into this ourselves, but you can simply call one of the stores in your area and inquire! You can find an overview of all stores carrying Jyoti clothing in different cities and countries here.

› What payment methods do you offer?

In our online shop, you can pay with PayPal, credit card, or Sofortüberweisung.
In our Berlin concept store, you can pay with cash or card.

› How do I redeem my voucher?

Once you have selected your products and moved to the shopping cart view, you will find the option to enter your voucher code in the bottom right corner. The amount will then be deducted from the total (or the discount applied if it is a percentage voucher). If your order amount is less than your voucher value, the remaining amount will be credited and you can use the code again next time. Capitalization is not relevant for your voucher code.

› How do I cancel a paid order?

If you have changed your mind shortly after placing your order and no longer wish to receive your product(s), please write us an email as soon as possible at bestellung(at)jyoti-fairworks.org. We will then cancel your order manually and refund you the full amount paid. If we have already shipped your order, simply return the products as described here. In this case, we cannot refund the shipping costs.

› How do I get an invoice for my order?

As a rule, we do not include a printed invoice in the package and thus save paper, printer ink and energy, which often ends up in the trash unnoticed. If you would like to receive an invoice, please leave us a message in the comments box in the last step of the order process. We would be happy to send you your invoice by email as well. For shipments to non-European countries, we will always include a printed invoice to ensure proper customs clearance.

3. Order via Avocadostore

› My order was cancelled by you. What does that mean?

Sometimes there are small errors when matching our inventory with the Avocadostore, so products may be available for order that we actually do not have in stock. In such a case, we usually offer our customers the option to backorder the product for them. Backordering means that you order on our website as usual, and we immediately forward the order to India. Several weeks later, your product is sent from India to us and we forward it to you immediately. Unfortunately, we cannot offer this option through the Avocadostore, and since we also do not receive any contact information from our customers, we cannot inform you. So, if your order was unexpectedly cancelled by us and you would be willing to wait a little longer for your new Jyoti product, simply send us an email to bestellung(at)jyoti-fairworks.org or order here directly.

› My shipping status says that the package is being returned to you. What now?

Don't panic, it was probably not delivered, but there is definitely a solution:) Please contact us! This is very important because we do not have your contact information for orders through the Avocadostore, and otherwise we are forced to cancel the order. We will then search together for a possible error in the address information or whatever else the problem may be. Once everything is resolved, we will send the package to you again.

› I never received my order and now received a refund - Why?

In this case, it seems that our package to you did not arrive. This can have various reasons: an error in the address, you did not receive a notification from DHL, or you were traveling and therefore did not pick up your shipment from the package shop, etc. Since we do not receive any contact information from you through the Avocadostore, we unfortunately cannot contact you and search for a solution together in such a case. Therefore, we are forced to issue a refund for your order. Do you still want to order your new Jyoti product? Then simply contact us by email and we will search for the cause of the problem before you place another order.

› I want to order a product, but it's sold out online - is it available in your store or on other platforms?

Unfortunately, no. The inventory in our own online shop, on Avocadostore, and in our concept store in Berlin is all synchronized. This means that if the product is sold out on one platform, it is really gone.

Unfortunately, we do not have any insight into this ourselves, but you can simply call one of the stores in your area and inquire! You can find an overview of all stores carrying Jyoti clothing in different cities and countries here.

› How do I return my Avocadostore order?

  • Simply pack the products you want to return back in the original box. Treat the products well, you are holding very valuable pieces in your hands, into which a lot of work has been put, even if you personally don't like them so much. We are very grateful if the products arrive back to us the way we sent them to you.
  • Fill out the return form that you received with your order. Don't forget to fill in all the requested information so that we can assign your return and please give us detailed feedback!
  • Close the package securely. If possible, use paper tape and use it sparingly - this will make recycling easier for us.
  • Send the package back to us. The address is: Jyoti - Fair Works, Oderberger Straße 42, 10435 Berlin.
  • For choosing the right shipping product: Our packages usually weigh less than 1kg, so the smallest package option is usually sufficient. Please keep your acceptance receipt so that we can investigate if a return does not arrive directly with us.
  • The refund will be processed through Avocadostore.

4. Shipping

› What are the shipping costs?

Shipping costs within Germany are €5.99. For orders over €250, shipping is free, and picking up your order in our store is also free.
Shipping costs to other countries vary depending on the shipping method and destination. You can find an overview of all costs here.

› What is the difference between Warenpost Premium and Paket International?

Warenpost Premium and Paket International are the two shipping options we offer for international shipments. Due to continuously rising transportation costs and varying customer needs (especially cost vs. time), we have chosen to be completely transparent about costs and let each of you make the decision. Warenpost Premium is the more affordable shipping option that takes a bit more time. Paket International costs more but gets your product to you within a few days. Both options include a tracking number for shipment tracking.
Here, you will find a detailed breakdown of costs and delivery times for each delivery region.

› How long does shipping take?

We will ship your order within 2 business days after we have received your payment. The duration of shipping may vary depending on whether you live in Germany, within Europe, or outside the EU. We ship to all countries with DHL. Based on our experience:

  • Delivery within Germany usually takes 2-4 days.
  • Delivery to countries within Europe takes 7-14 days with Warenpost Premium and 2-4 days with Paket International.
  • Delivery to countries outside Europe takes approximately 2-5 weeks with Warenpost Premium (we don't have enough experience to provide a more precise estimate) and 10-20 days with Paket International.

Here, you will find a detailed breakdown of costs and delivery times for each delivery region.

You will receive an email from us as soon as your order leaves our warehouse and your favorite item is on its way to you.
For special orders/backorders, the delivery time can be up to 8 weeks.

› Can I pick up my order from you in Berlin?

Definitely. Our concept store for female-led, sustainable brands is open weekly Wednesday-Friday from 11am-6pm and on Saturday from 11am-7pm.
Simply select "pick up in store" as the shipping method when checking out, and no shipping costs will be charged. Please pick up your product within one week after placing your order or contact us if there is a delay. If you cannot make it during our regular opening hours and would like to come on Monday, Tuesday or early in the morning, simply write us an email at kontakt(at)jyoti-fairworks.org.

› Can I have my order delivered to a parcel station?

Yes, you can. Simply provide the address details of your parcel station when placing your order.

› Are there any facilitations for shipping processing for orders from Switzerland?

Through MeinEinkauf.ch, you can easily shop in our online store at reasonable shipping costs and, above all, without customs duties. The process is very simple:

  1. Simply register with MEINEINKAUF.CH and you will receive a personal firstname.lastname@meineinkauf.ch email address.
  2. Using the personal firstname.lastname@meineinkauf.ch email address, you can then process your order in our online store (create a customer account and place your order).
  3. Important: Please use only MeinEinkauf GmbH, Max-Stromeyer-Strasse 160, D-78467 Konstanz as shipping and billing address.
  4. All order and shipping information will be automatically forwarded from your firstname.lastname@meineinkauf.ch email address to your private email address. The MeinEinkauf.ch team is also informed of the status of your order to send it to your address in Switzerland as soon as possible. You can view the status of your order on www.meineinkauf.ch under "My Orders" about 48 hours after receipt.
  5. You pay for the ordered products directly in our shop. Together with the goods, you will receive a separate invoice for the service fee from MeinEinkauf.ch (for more information on the fees of MeinEinkauf, click here).

Not sure if it's worth it? Here you will find an example calculation of the costs incurred for shipments to Switzerland, which will give you a small impression. Of course, the exact costs always depend on the product, the value of the goods, the weight, etc. All of these costs are already covered in MeinEinkauf's fees, and you also no longer have to take care of the import.

› To which countries do you ship?

We generally ship to all countries. However, please note that additionally to higher shipping costs import fees can be charged, when ordering from countries outside the EU.

› My shipping status says the package will be returned to you. What now?

Don't panic, probably it couldn't be delivered. We will contact you as soon as your package has arrived back with us, and then we will search together for a possible error in the address information. Once everything is clarified, we will send you the package again.
ATTENTION: If you have ordered through the Avocado store, it is very important that you contact us as we do not have your contact information.

› My shipping status is not changing. What does that mean?

If you have only ordered small products (such as jewelry or hairbands), you don't need to worry at first. Our small packages are sent via DHL Warenpost (national), a service that provides only limited tracking information. For these shipments, only the delivery and successful delivery are announced online.
For all other DHL parcel shipments, a detailed shipment history is displayed. You will usually receive more information after entering your postal code, such as where your package was deposited with which neighbor.
Shipping within Germany usually takes no longer than 4 days (see shipping time for more details). If your product has been on the way for more than 10 working days, please contact us, so that we can possibly request an investigation.

› Which package delivery companies do you work with?

All shipments are handled by DHL/Deutsche Post. So you can find the tracking for your shipment here

› I am missing part of my order - what can I do?

Is it possible that you ordered part of the order on backorder, and we initially only sent you the products that we had in stock? If so, you already have an email from us in your inbox! If that's not the solution yet and you really are missing something, we're very sorry! We will of course send you your missing product later. Just send us a short email to bestellung(at)jyoti-fairworks.org.

5. Returns/Exchanges/Complaints

› How long and in what condition can I return a product?

Our return period is 30 days from receipt of the order. The arrival of the shipment at your location according to DHL shipment tracking is decisive. Please only return unworn products. Clothing quickly absorbs body odors and we cannot afford to wash returned products, nor can we resell home-washed clothing items as new products. Trying on clothes is of course not a problem and absolutely necessary ;)

› Are returns free of charge?

No, we do not cover the return costs. We deliberately decided that in order to

  1. not increase the product costs unnecessarily, as shipping costs covered by us would otherwise have to be included in the price calculation
  2. reduce our CO2 footprint as much as possible and not to create an incentive for excessively large orders, the majority of which are returned.
At the same time, we are aware that it is difficult to find the right size and fit when shopping online! Therefore, we have implemented a size advice tool including detailed measurement tables to help you choose the right size. We also describe the fit and material composition in detail in our product descriptions and always try to photograph our clothing on different people so that you have many comparison options.

If you have to return a product because we made a mistake, for example, the wrong product was shipped or it is damaged, we will of course cover the return. In this case, please contact us for a return label at bestellung(at)jyoti-fairworks.org.

› How do I return something?

  • Simply pack the products you want to return back in the original box. Treat the products well, you are holding very valuable pieces in your hands that have required a lot of work, even if you personally don't like them that much. We are very grateful if the products arrive back with us in the same condition as we sent them to you.
  • Fill out the return form that you received with your order. Don't forget to fill in all the requested information so that we can assign your return and please give us detailed feedback!
  • Seal the package well. Use paper tape if possible and use it sparingly - this makes recycling easier for us.
  • Send the package back to us. The address is: Jyoti - Fair Works, Oderberger Straße 42, 10435 Berlin.
  • For the selection of the right shipping product: Our parcels usually weigh less than 1kg, so the smallest parcel option is usually sufficient. Please keep your deposit slip so that we can investigate if a return does not arrive directly with us.
› How will I be informed that you have received the return?

We will process your return within 1-3 days after receiving it. Once your money has been refunded, you will receive an automated email to the address you used when shopping. If you don't hear or read anything from us, please write us an email at bestellung(at)jyoti-fairworks.org.

› What should I do if I receive a damaged item?

Please send us an email at bestellung(at)jyoti-fairworks.org and send a photo of the damaged product as it arrived with you. We will then send you a shipping label for the return and immediately send a new product on its way - provided we still have it in stock. If not, we offer to cancel the order or reorder the product for you.

› Can I drop off my return at your store in Berlin?

Yes, of course! Our concept store for female*led, sustainable brands is open every Wednesday to Friday from 11am to 6pm and on Saturdays from 11am to 7pm and we are happy if you come by in person. Nevertheless, please bring the completed return form with you so that we can clearly assign your order afterwards. The refund will not be made on-site, but online within the following 1-3 working days.

› How will the refund be processed?

The refund will be processed 1-3 working days after receiving your return on the same payment method you used for your original order, i.e., credit card, instant transfer or Paypal. If your account information has changed in the meantime, or if you no longer have access to your account, please inform us on the return form.

› I did not receive a return form. What can I do now?

We are sorry about that! It seems we simply forgot to include it in your order. You can download our return form here.

› Can I return two items in one package?

Yes, please! We want to avoid unnecessary packaging waste and shipping expenses. However, please fill out a separate return form for each order and use a larger package if the products in their original box do not fit.

› Can I exchange my product for another size?

If your ordered Jyoti product does not fit, we will gladly exchange it for a new size. Simply indicate your exchange request on the return form, and we will send you the new product free of charge.

› Can I reuse the discount code I used?

Unfortunately, no. If you used a voucher for the returned purchase, we will issue a new voucher for the refund and send you the code by email. We will use the email address you used for the original order.

› Can I return a Jyoti product that I bought at another store to you?

Since the product was paid for by you at another store and can only be refunded there, we unfortunately cannot accept returns that were purchased at another retailer.
However, if you only want an exchange for a new size, so no money needs to be paid out, and the store where you purchased the product, for example, no longer has it in stock, you can contact us at bestellung(at)jyoti-fairworks.org and we will discuss how we can help you!

› Can I return products ordered online to your store?

Yes, of course! Our Concept Store for female-led, sustainable brands is open weekly from Wednesday to Friday from 11 am to 6 pm and on Saturday from 11 am to 7 pm, and we are happy if you come in person. However, please still bring the completed return form with you so that we can clearly assign your order afterwards. The refund will not be processed on-site but will be processed online in the following 1-3 working days.

› Can I return an older, used Jyoti product to you if I no longer want it?

Our return period is usually 30 days and we only accept unworn clothing. However, if you own an older (and maybe once very beloved) Jyoti piece that no longer fits or is simply not worn anymore, you can return it to us and we offer it for sale second-hand in our store as part of Jyoti Circular. If the item is successfully sold, the profit will be split between you and us. Detailed information on Jyoti Circular can be found here.

› How can I report a damaged product?

If your Jyoti piece arrives damaged or shows disproportionate defects too quickly, you can of course report it.
Simply send it to our warehouse (Jyoti-Fair Works, Oderberger Straße 42, 10435 Berlin) as a return and include a brief written explanation of the defect. It can also be very helpful if you contact us by E-Mail or phone before the return shipment. This way we can advise you whether the problem can be easily solved or whether we or a tailor can repair the garment at our expense.

6. Pre-Order/Backorder

› What is a pre-order/backorder?

If we don't have a product in stock but still have the fabric used in our sewing workshops in India, we offer products for pre-order (also known as backorder). You place a regular order, but initially only receive an order confirmation from us. We immediately pass your order on to India, and a few weeks later, you will receive your product.

› What are the benefits of a pre-order?

  1. It doesn't get much more sustainable than this! Your pre-orders allow us to prevent any form of overproduction. This ensures that every inch of fabric, every one of our products, truly finds a home instead of languishing as "dead stock".
  2. Over the past few years, some of our collection favorites have been almost constantly sold out because we couldn't produce them as quickly as they were being purchased. With a pre-order, you secure your desired product without having to constantly check our online shop to see if it's back in stock - and of course, you can still return it just like any other regular order.

› When will I receive my pre-order?

Depending on the production status, it can take up to 8 weeks for your pre-order to reach you. Of course, you can also return a pre-ordered product within the regular return period if it doesn't fit or you don't like it.

› When will I receive the available items that I ordered along with my pre-order?

If you ordered other (available) items along with your pre-order, we will send you an email asking if we can wait to ship until the order is complete. You are more than welcome to include your answer in the comment field during the ordering process to save us the extra communication:)

› Are there any additional delivery or return costs for pre-orders?

No. Even if we have to send your order in two parts (see previous point), we will cover the additional shipping costs. If you later wish to return the pre-ordered product, the normal return conditions apply.

› How does payment for my pre-order work?

Payment is made at the time of ordering the product. So you buy normally through our online shop, only the shipping of the item is delayed.

› Can I cancel my pre-ordered goods?

Yes, you can cancel your pre-order at any time before receiving the goods. After delivery, you have a regular return period of 30 days.

› Is there a risk that the pre-ordered item may not be delivered at short notice?

In general, this should not happen. If there are major incidents in production, fabrics become unusable, or products are damaged during shipping, we will contact you regarding your pre-order and find an individual solution.

7. Product Care

› How do I care for my Jyoti clothing item?

Wash your Jyoti piece at a maximum of 30 degrees (wool and silk always cold), separate by colors, and use a liquid, lead-free detergent.
Never use a dryer, instead let your Jyoti pieces dry gently in the air. Tip: Wool prefers to dry flat on the rack to prevent the yarn from stretching.
All our pieces can also be ironed easily.

Got a particularly nasty stain?
For coffee and red wine stains, apply some salt before washing, and for greasy stains like makeup, use gall soap and baking powder.

For more information and details on proper care, check out our Care Guide

› How do I care for my Jyoti jewelry piece?

First of all, it's important to know: your piece of jewelry is made of brass or silver. Brass is an alloy of copper and zinc. Due to the copper content, your jewelry may react when exposed to air and moisture, causing it to darken and even discolor if you sweat excessively. But don't worry - the discoloration is completely harmless, can easily be washed off from the skin and removed from your jewelry. Silver can also become slightly darker and duller over time with wear.
To restore the shine of your jewelry - regardless of the material - simply use a silver polishing cloth, polish it, and it will look like new again.

8. Repairs/Alterations

› My seam has come apart, what should I do?

Check if only the seam has come apart or if it's the fabric. If it's only the seam, then you (or a tailor) can easily repair your item. Turn the item inside out, lay the open seam flat on top of each other and sew over the open seam with a sewing machine (you can also do it by hand with a needle and thread). Press the seam flat from the outside at the end. You can find more information on our repair page.

› My Jyoti piece has a hole, what should I do?

There are two ways to mend a hole: either as inconspicuously as possible with a same-colored piece of fabric, or you can make an accent by adding a colored patch or embroidery. You can find more information on our repair page.

› My Jyoti pants are a bit too long/short, can I do something about it?

Yes! You can almost always shorten your pants. However, if your pants are too short, they have a double seam allowance in the hem, so you can also lengthen your Jyoti pants by a maximum of 5cm. Simply bring them to your trusted tailor or sit down at your sewing machine. You can find more information on our repair page.

› My Jyoti pants are too tight/loose at the waistband, what can I do?

Because bodies are different and always changing, our pants have two special features. First, the incorporated drawstring allows you to individually tighten your pants if they are a little loose. Second, we have an extra wide seam allowance at the back of the waistband. This allows our pants to be easily opened and made tighter or up to 4cm looser. Simply bring them to your trusted tailor or sit down at your sewing machine. You can find more information on our repair page.

9. Jyoti-Circular/Reselling

› What exactly is Jyoti-Circular?

Besides our regular collections, we offer Jyoti second-hand items, prototypes, and clothing with minor flaws. This way, we enable our products to have the longest life possible, instead of just being forgotten in the depths of wardrobes or leading a dull life in our warehouse due to minor peculiarities.
As online sales of individual pieces require a lot of effort, which we cannot currently handle with our small team, we offer our Jyoti-Circular items only at our Jyoti store at Oderberger Straße 42 in Berlin until further notice. Here, we have a separate browsing corner for all the out-of-the-ordinary treasures, and we would be pleased if you drop by!
That means also that if you own an older (and perhaps formerly much-loved) Jyoti item that no longer fits or is simply not worn anymore, you can return it to us, and we will sell it second-hand at our store as part of Jyoti-Circular. If the item is successfully sold, the profit will be split between you and us. You can find detailed information on Jyoti-Circular here.

› Why are you doing this?

In 2020, over 100 billion items of clothing were produced worldwide - twice as many as in 2005. At the same time, the use of clothing has decreased by 40%. Therefore, textile waste is one of the main reasons why the textile industry is the second-largest polluter in the world - directly after the oil industry.
Given the vast amounts of waste produced by the textile industry every year, we believe that it is no longer enough to produce ONLY fairly and ecologically sustainably. We are convinced that we need a circular system. But what does that mean? Circular fashion is the concept of designing, producing, and acquiring fashion items with the intention of longevity and sustainability. Only pollutant-free, renewable, biodegradable, and recyclable resources are used for production. Through good care, reuse, repair, resale, and redesign, the products should be used as long as possible and circulate among multiple users. If this is no longer possible, the products should be recycled by being processed into new products or composted to return to the biosphere in an environmentally friendly manner.

› What are the payment options for selling an item?

If the item is successfully sold, the profit will be split between you and us. You can decide whether you want your 50% refunded by us or whether you want to donate this amount to our Jyoti e.V..
We will independently reduce the resale price of your product if it does not find a new owner immediately. Before your Jyoti Circular item runs the risk of being forgotten here with us, we will give it away to someone who will appreciate it.

› Can I return second-hand items?

Jyoti Circular products are exclusively sold in our store, where you can try them on in person. Like all sales made in-store, they cannot be returned as standard. However, we offer you the option to exchange the product for a voucher within 14 days of your purchase.

10. Concept Store in Berlin

› When is your store open?

Our concept store for female-led, sustainable brands is open weekly from Wednesday to Friday from 11am to 6pm and on Saturday from 11am to 7pm.

› Where is your store located?

The address of our Berlin store is: Oderberger Straße 42, 10435 Berlin. You can find us between Mauerpark and Kastanienallee or more precisely, between Hokey Pokey ice cream and Waffeln von kauf dich glücklich :)

› Are there any Jyoti stores in other cities or countries?

We only have one store ourselves - here in Berlin. Besides our own store, selected Jyoti products are also available in several other stores in Berlin and many other cities in Germany and Europe - to touch and try on, completely analog and in your area. You can find a list of all stores with Jyoti products here.

› Can I redeem an online voucher in your store?

Technically, we haven't found a completely clean solution for this yet, but we'll make it work somehow! ;) You can definitely buy vouchers from us in the store - for online purchases as well as for in-store purchases.

› Can I pick up products ordered online at your store?

Definitely. Our concept store for female-led, sustainable brands is open weekly from Wednesday to Friday from 11am to 6pm and on Saturday from 11am to 7pm.
When placing your order, simply choose "Pick-up in-store" as the shipping option, then no shipping costs will be charged. Please pick up your product within one week of placing your order or contact us if there are any delays. Even if you can't make it during our regular opening hours and would like to stop by on Monday, Tuesday or early in the morning, you can simply send us an email.

› Can I return products ordered online to your store?

Yes, of course! Our concept store for female-led, sustainable brands is open weekly from Wednesday to Friday from 11am to 6pm and on Saturday from 11am to 7pm and we would be happy to see you in person. However, please still bring the completed return form with you so that we can clearly assign your order afterwards. The refund will not be processed on-site but will be processed online in the following 1-3 working days.

› Can I return a product purchased in store?

Products purchased in-store can be tried on, felt, and thoroughly inspected on site, unlike online purchases, so they are exempt from the right of return. However, we offer you the option to exchange a product purchased on site for a gift voucher within 14 days.

› Can I find products in the store that are sold out online?

Actually no - the stock levels in our own online shop, in the Avocadostore and in our concept store in Berlin, are all synchronized, which means that if the product is sold out on one platform, it is really gone at the moment.
BUT... it may still be worth stopping by, because in our Berlin store, we offer not only regular collection items, but also Jyoti second-hand pieces as well as prototypes and clothing with small flaws. We sometimes have quite a few of such unique items, and maybe there is one that is very similar to your desired product (and no one else will own it). So feel free to stop by and browse!

› I live in Berlin - can I just come by with my concern?

Of course, you can come by our Berlin concept store during opening hours (Wed-Sat: 11am-6pm). However, you will not always meet our entire Jyoti team on site, and we are often busy in the store advising or doing something else. So if you want to discuss something bigger or need a very specific person from our team for it, just let us know beforehand by email and we will arrange an appointment. But for smaller concerns, such as the return of an online order or a complaint about a damaged product, you can of course drop by anytime without notice.
