Care, Repair, Resell

Sustainability and the conscious use of clothing are very important to us at Jyoti. We attach great importance not only to producing sustainably, but also to helping our customers to wear their clothes for a long time and with joy. Our focus is on natural, renewable and biodegradable materials. For us, sustainable fashion consumption primarily means reducing new purchases and properly caring for existing clothing. That's why we have put together important information about our materials as well as care and repair tips for you. This way you can treat your Jyoti garment optimally and enjoy it for as long as possible. If a piece of clothing ends up hanging unused in your closet, we will be happy to help you resell it through our Jyoti Circular program.

Care Symbols & Basics

In every item of clothing you will find a small sewn-in care label, which gives you important information about washing, cleaning, drying and ironing the respective material in the form of symbols. You will usually find this label in the left side seam.

The right care for every material

Vegetable fibers:
Cotton, hemp, linen, modal, Tencel

Take care of your Jyoti product to preserve its beauty for many years: Wash it at a maximum of 30°C on a gentle cycle with a mild detergent. Air dry the garment and protect it from direct sunlight. Hemp and cotton can be ironed on a medium setting. For Tencel, Modal and Ecovero, ironing on the lowest setting is recommended.

Animal fibers:
silk & wool

Silk and wool are easy-care materials that rarely need to be washed thanks to their odor- and dirt-repellent properties. Regular airing is often enough. If cleaning is necessary, wash these items carefully by hand with special detergent in lukewarm water or use the hand-wash program on your machine at a maximum of 20°C and 400 revolutions. Protect these animal fibers from moths, for example with essential oils or storage bags. To maintain the shape of knitted wool products, you should store them flat after washing and in the closet. A lint shaver helps prevent pilling.

brass & silver

Over time and through contact with sweat or high humidity, the surface of our jewelry can become a little duller and sometimes darker. To make it shine like it did at the beginning, you can use a silver cleaning cloth or product or even simple household remedies like toothpaste.

stain removal

Here are some helpful tips for removing common stains.

Have you tried everything but the stain remains visible?
In the Repair section you will find some suggestions on what you can do in this case to save your garment.

ADAPTATION & CHANGE

SHORTENING OR LENGTHENING PANTS

All Jyoti trousers have a double-folded hem, meaning there is extra length hidden in the leg that you can let out as needed. Of course, you can always shorten them. Just take the trousers to your nearest tailor for alterations or use the sewing machine yourself if you're familiar with it.

FLEXIBLE WIDTH ADJUSTMENT

Thanks to a small internal drawstring in most of our trousers and skirts (except for a few models where a flat waistband is very important to us), you can adjust the waistband width when wearing it - without having to sew anything else. Of course, this cannot replace choosing the right size, but it can ensure that a few extra centimeters in the width simply disappear and the garment fits perfectly. So if your hip measurements are exactly between two of our sizes, if in doubt, choose the larger product.

NARROWER OR WIDER COVENANT

Bodies change over time! This is normal and our clothing should be able to adapt to this. If the adjustment with the drawstring (in the previous picture) is not sufficient or you want to widen the waistband of your trousers, we have left some additional seam allowance in the middle back for you. The garment is also made in such a way that you can easily unpick it at the back and sew it back together with a different width. The same applies here: take the trousers to the nearest tailor for alterations or sit down at the sewing machine yourself.

repair

pulled thread

If a thread has come loose on your Jyoti piece, you can easily pull it back or pull it inwards. Depending on the material, you will find video instructions here for repairing coarse knitwear such as sweaters or hats or woven fabrics such as blouses, trousers, etc.

torn seam

If a seam on your Jyoti piece has come undone, it's not a big deal and can be easily and inexpensively repaired by a tailor. But you can also repair it yourself, even without a sewing machine. In this video we show you how.

hole or permanent stain

Stains can be easily covered with beautiful embroidery or a colorful patch. If there is a hole or stain on the sleeves or legs, you could also cut the piece off at the stain and sew it into short sleeves or legs. In this blog post we have collected a few more creative ideas for upcycling

fragile buttonhole

Buttonholes are where most of the friction occurs. So if one or more buttonholes on your piece are fraying and becoming more fragile, you can repair them by hand and make them more stable again. To do this, take the thickest thread possible and sew around the buttonhole using the stitch shown here .
