We created our shirt „WMN* PWR” in cooperation with the Berlin artist collective “Crafts and Cramps” – a collective, that intends to draw attention to socially relevant issues through embroidery art. The embroidered slogan of our shirt is supposed to raise awareness on the way in which our consumption affects social developments and hence is to be understood as a political act – a political act that we have to constantly acknowledge as such.
Made out of the wonderfully soft cottonfabric handwoven by the cooperative Dastkar Andrah, this shirt has been sewn and embroidered by our team in Chittapur. However, if that wouldn’t be enough 50% of the revenue directly goes to the artist collective “Crafts and Cramps”, while the remaining 50% are distributed amongst our team in India.
This ruby cotton fabric is woven by hand in a cooperative part of the organization Dastkar Andhra. Traditionally manufactured on the loom, the fabric contains small irregularities, which contribute to its unique structure. Thus each meter of this valuable material has its very own character. Finally Rajni gets sewn in our workshop in Chittapur.
