Quilt Kantha patchwork
Quilt Kantha patchwork
incl. VAT, plus shipping
[su_accordion][su_spoiler title="Description" icon="caret"]One of these products the women can easily craft from at home during the lockdown are these beautiful Kanthas. Kanthas are quilted patchwork blankets, which are usually recycled from the women’s old or damaged Sarees in India. These bright and colourful quilts are very popular in Indian households and used as bedsheets or warm blankets. Instead of Sarees we decided to use our leftover materials from the workshop, which are sometimes unavoidable when cutting patterns for garments and too small to use them for other accessories. Unfortunately, the production of these beautiful quilts is way too time-consuming for the “normal” business mode, that is why we will sell the Kanthas in a very limited edition.
[su_Icon_Handgewebt][/su_Icon_Handgewebt][su_Icon_upcycling][/su_Icon_upcycling][su_PETA_Logo][/su_PETA_Logo][/su_spoiler]
[su_spoiler title="Your contribution" icon="caret"]
The Kanthas are beautiful but at the same time a great deal of work. Many small patches have to be sewn together first to create a big blanket and in a second step, the whole Kantha is quilted by hand with a lot of small stitches to fix the single layers, to make the blanket even warmer and also more beautiful. In order to finish one quilt it takes a couple of weeks. This is why the price is consequently quite high.[/su_spoiler]
[su_spoiler title="Product details and care" icon="caret"]
Colour: Colourful. Each blanket is unique and designed by the woman who makes it.
Material: 100% cotton
Measurements: 200cm x 200cm/ 145cm x 200cm
Care Instructions: 30°, not suitable for tumble drying[/su_spoiler]
[su_spoiler title="Delivery and availability" icon="caret"] The Kanthas were produced in in the time of the current lock-down in India. Within Germany, we normally deliver the order within 3-4 working days after we have received your payment. The delivery to other European countries, generally takes about 4-6 working days. In any case, you will get an email from us as soon as your order leaves our warehouse and your favorite piece is on its way to you.
Since we have only some few pieces left in stock, you can preorder the quilt or sign up to our waitlist. This way you will be informed as soon as it is back in stock. You find more information about the waitlist here. [/su_spoiler][/su_accordion]

The blue-Ikat fabric is handwoven in the small Indian hamlet Pochampally in the state of Telangana. Traditional Ikat fabrics are produced there, requiring refined weaving technique and precise dyeing skills that have been honed by generations of inherited knowledge, as well as a lot of talent and concentration. The brown wool fabric is handmade by weavers of the family run business Vankar Kantilal Samat. The wool is sourced from local families of the Rabari nomads – traditional farmers who rear sheep and goats. They wander with their animals throughout the year. The animals have access to fresh pastures and are treated humanly. Thus it is no surprise that the wool is soft and not itchy at all. Also the wool fibre itself is breathable, dirt and odour resistant and almost crease free. Plus it is 100% bio degradable. This is why we work with this multifunctional material. Manufactured on handlooms, the fabric has a unique texture. Finally, Katni is sewn in our workshop in Chittapur.

Finally, Katni is sewn in our workshop in Londa.

[su_spoiler title="Wertschöpfung" icon="caret"]These rings are crafted by a small family of artisans in Pushkar (Rajasthan) in North India. Rajasthan is the centre of goldsmith art in India. For centuries, silver – and recently brass as well- has been mined and processed there. The Mahwani family has been in the business of jewellery making for three generations and makes – following traditional Rajasthani styles – unique designs. Even though this family is not a member of our group of seamstresses in Chittapur we would like to support them because we think they are fabulous. You can find more information about them and other artisans who collaborate with the small, Berlin-based label Perelin here: www.perelin-berlin.com [/su_spoiler]

Finally, Latur is sewn in our workshop in Chittapur.
